Bani Park

The leafy colony north of the station where the heritage guesthouses and family hotels are.

Bani Park grew in the early twentieth century as a residential colony of large houses north-west of the walled city, between the railway station and the Jhotwara road. The plots were big and the roads wide, and when the city began to take tourists in numbers in the 1980s and 90s, those houses turned into guesthouses and heritage hotels.

That is what the visitor knows it for. The colony has more small hotels per street than any other part of Jaipur, most of them family-run in converted bungalows with courtyards and roof terraces. Kanota Bagh and the older havelis are at its edges, and the Jaipur Junction station is ten minutes’ walk.

It is quiet, green and well placed: the walled city is fifteen minutes by auto through Chandpole Gate, the bus stand is next door, and the airport is forty minutes south. The colony’s own market, Bani Park market, covers daily needs; for the bazaars one goes into the walls.
