Teej is the festival of the monsoon and of married women, celebrated in Jaipur in Shravan (July–August) with a two-day procession of the image of Teej Mata from the City Palace through Tripolia Gate and the bazaars to Chaugan. Elephants, camels, bands and the palace retainers walk it, and the city watches from the rooftops and the Hind Hotel balcony.
Women wear green, apply mehndi and swing on swings hung from trees; the sweet is ghewar; and the bangle lane of Maniharon ka Rasta is at its busiest.
