Mansarovar

One of Asia’s largest residential colonies, on the south-west of the city, with its own metro line and markets.

Mansarovar was laid out by the Jaipur Development Authority in the 1980s on the south-western side of the city, on a scale that was new to Jaipur: sector after sector of plotted housing, apartment blocks and local markets, with wide roads between them. It is often called one of the largest residential colonies in Asia, and it continues to grow westward.

The pink line of the metro begins at Mansarovar, which gave the colony a direct run to the walled city when the line opened in 2015. The Mansarovar market, the Shipra Path shops and the Madhyam Marg strip serve a population of several lakh, and the schools and hospitals of the colony are its own.

A visitor sees Mansarovar as the start of the metro and the home of a good part of the city’s middle class. The Ajmer Road hotels are at its northern edge, and the Sanganer airport is to the east.
