Galtaji is a cleft in the Aravalli hills east of the walled city where a spring feeds a series of tanks, and a complex of temples was built around them in the eighteenth century by Diwan Rao Kriparam. The main temple is to Galtaji, a sage; the kunds are the bathing tanks, the upper one fed from a cow’s-mouth spout; and the Sun Temple on the ridge above looks back over the city.
It is also the monkey temple: rhesus and langur troops live in the complex and are fed by pilgrims. The approach is from the Galta road beyond Surajpole, or by a walk over the ridge from the Sun Temple side.
