Jawahar Nagar & Tilak Nagar

The eastern colonies beside Raja Park, under the Jhalana hills.

Jawahar Nagar and Tilak Nagar are the residential colonies east of the walled city, laid out after 1947 beside Raja Park and running up to the Jhalana hills. They are quiet, well-planted colonies of bungalows and small apartments, with sector markets and the University of Rajasthan campus on their southern side.

The university, founded in 1947, is the big institution of the east; its campus on JLN Marg has the Poddar Institute, the colleges and the central library. The Jhalana leopard forest climbs the hills behind.

A visitor sees the colonies on the way to Jhalana or Galtaji; Raja Park’s food street is next door.
