Jhalana is a dry deciduous forest of about twenty square kilometres on the Aravalli ridge inside Jaipur’s limits, which has held a population of leopards for decades alongside the city. It was opened for safaris in 2017 as the Jhalana Leopard Reserve, and sightings are frequent because the leopards have grown used to the vehicles.
Jeep safaris run twice a day from the Jhalana gate; the forest also has hyena, jackal, nilgai and many birds, and the old hunting lodge of the Jaipur rulers stands inside. Amagarh, a second leopard reserve on the ridge towards Galtaji, opened in 2022.
