Malviya Nagar was developed from the 1970s on the southern side of the city, named for Madan Mohan Malviya, and it grew into one of the biggest residential areas of Jaipur. It sits between Tonk Road and the Jagatpura side, and the airport at Sanganer is a short drive south, which made it the natural home for the city’s newer money.
It is also the educational and commercial south. The Malaviya National Institute of Technology is here, with its large campus on JLN Marg; the World Trade Park mall, the city’s largest, is on the same road; and Gaurav Tower, the older mall, is a little north. The colony’s own markets along Mahaveer Nagar and Gurjar ki Thadi serve the apartment blocks.
For a visitor it is the Jaipur of hotels near the airport, of the mall and the multiplex, and of the restaurants on JLN Marg. The walled city is forty minutes north; the Jhalana leopard reserve is on its eastern side.
