Quilts, Bandhani & Leheriya

The light Jaipuri razai, the tie-dye of bandhani and the diagonal stripes of leheriya — the textile trades of the bazaars.

The Jaipuri razai is a quilt of carded cotton so finely spread that a single quilt weighs a few hundred grams and warms a winter night; the quilt makers of the walled city and Sanganer fill block-printed covers with it. Bandhani is the tie-dye of dots, and leheriya the diagonal-striped tie-dye of the turban and the saree, both Rajasthani crafts sold by the metre and the piece in Bapu, Nehru and Kishanpole Bazaar.

The textile trade of the walled city is old and large: cloth by the metre, sarees, dupattas, bedcovers, and the wholesale that supplies the rest of the state.
